ALUMNI
Alumni of the performance programs at the University of Florida (MFA in Acting, BFA in Acting, and BFA in Musical Theatre) have enjoyed significant success on stage and screen. Recent among them is J. Salome Martinez, who has had supporting leads in the films From Brooklyn to Manhattan and Church and State and a guest starring role in all episodes of the forthcoming HBO mini-series, Generation Kill. Salome is currently shooting New York, I Love You, directed by Scarlett Johansson. Usman Ally has been at Steppenwolf Theatre Company for the 2007-08 season. Marci Stringer appeared opposite Fantasia in Life Is Not a Fairy Tale. Shekitra Starke is appearing on Broadway in Mary Poppins. Jason Gillman is currently in Legally Blonde, having previously appeared in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Annie Get Your Gun and Chicago. Allyson Tolbert toured with The Producers, while Jonathon Lovitz was seen in national tours of both Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. These (along with many others steadily working across the country on stage, in television, film and commercials) follow in the footsteps of some of the school’s most notable alumni: Stephen Root (No Country for Old Men, Office Space and NewsRadio) Malcolm Gets (Caroline in the City) and Academy Award-winning Faye Dunaway (Bonnie & Clyde, Chinatown and Network).
